Timor-Leste Sends 13 Workers to Japan for Skilled Employment

On June 29, 2025, Timor-Leste will send 13 workers to Japan for skilled employment and training through the Secretariat of State for Vocational Training and Employment (SEFOPE). Of these, 12 workers will be employed in welding at the Tsuneishi company, while one will work in horticulture in Ibaraki. Before departure, all workers will undergo testing and training to prepare them for their roles.

The workers will sign three-year contracts, during which they will gain valuable skills and experience. The program is designed to equip them with knowledge and abilities that they can apply to support Timor-Leste’s development upon their return. Currently, 32 Timorese workers are already in Japan under a similar cooperation agreement.

Japanese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Tetsuya Kimura, expressed his gratitude to the technical teams responsible for preparing the workers. He encouraged the workers to adapt to Japanese culture, learn the language, and build relationships during their stay, highlighting the importance of cultural understanding alongside professional skills.

This initiative reflects the ongoing partnership between Timor-Leste and Japan, providing opportunities for Timorese workers to enhance their expertise abroad and contribute to their home country’s growth.
