Vikeke Municipality Launches School Expansion Project at ESJ Paralelu Uagia

On June 12, 2025, the Vikeke Municipality Authority, led by President Francisco C.S de Gonzaga Soares, in partnership with the National Program for Village Development (PNDS), officially launched the groundbreaking ceremony for an important expansion project at the Ensinu Sekundáriu Jerál (ESJ) Paralelu Uagia school. Located in the administrative post of Osuu within Vikeke, this initiative marks a significant step toward improving educational infrastructure and supporting local development efforts.

The project involves the construction of a two-room extension to the existing school facilities. With a total budget of $25,945.13, the funding for this expansion has been sourced entirely from the local community, reflecting strong grassroots support and commitment to enhancing educational opportunities for the area’s youth. The construction is scheduled for completion by September 2025, promising timely delivery to meet the growing needs of the school population.

The ESJ Paralelu Uagia school expansion is part of a broader strategy to bolster education and community development within Vikeke Municipality. The PNDS program, which has been instrumental in driving village-level development, has already been implemented in 40 out of the 36 villages in Vikeke, achieving an impressive 83.56% implementation rate. This high level of program adoption underscores the municipality’s dedication to fostering sustainable growth and improving living standards through coordinated development efforts.

During the ceremony, President Soares and PNDS representatives emphasized the critical role of collaboration between local authorities and community members. They called for continued collective effort to ensure the successful completion of the school extension project. This partnership approach is viewed as essential not only for the immediate construction goals but also for the long-term progress of Vikeke Municipality.

The expansion of ESJ Paralelu Uagia school is expected to alleviate overcrowding and provide a better learning environment for students, thereby enhancing educational outcomes. Improved school infrastructure is a key factor in attracting and retaining qualified teachers, increasing student attendance, and supporting a more comprehensive curriculum. These benefits align with the municipality’s vision of empowering its residents through education and community-driven development.

Moreover, the project highlights the effectiveness of community-funded initiatives in addressing local needs. By mobilizing resources at the grassroots level, Vikeke Municipality demonstrates a model of participatory development that can be replicated in other regions. The involvement of PNDS further ensures that such projects are aligned with national development priorities and benefit from technical support and oversight.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the ESJ Paralelu Uagia school extension represents a milestone in Vikeke’s ongoing efforts to improve educational infrastructure and promote sustainable development. With strong community backing, effective program implementation, and committed leadership, the project is poised to contribute significantly to the municipality’s social and economic advancement. The successful completion of this initiative by September 2025 will serve as a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision in driving meaningful progress.
